Insurance broker goes extra mile to help rural business community

BNIB customers in Dumfries & Galloway are benefitting from a newly-launched mobile service with confidential insurance documentation and face-to-face advice being delivered directly to their door.

Kate Hunter, an account executive with BNIB Mair has rejected a new full-time office desk in Glasgow in favour of a laptop and company car in a bid to take tailored insurance services out to the rural business community.

Convinced of the long-term merits of offering a more traditional and personal service, Kate has made it her priority to visit commercial customers of all sizes in the run-up to their policy renewal date – a winning formula that appears to be boosting repeat business as well as bringing in frequent new business referrals.

‘I am delighted with the impact that our mobile service is having,’ says Kate. ‘Most people will know of our presence in the area as we began more than 20 years ago as Ewen C Mair. We have always prided ourselves on long-standing customer relationships based on fair and honest broking and now, more than ever, these values seem to be appreciated by farmers and businesses across the region.’

Ewen C Mair became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Broker Network Insurance Brokers in 2004 and as such now operates as BNIB Mair alongside sister company BNIB Peacock Robertson in Glasgow with Kate on the road carrying the banner for rural business customers. BNIB Mair is also part of Towergate Group, now the UK’s largest and fastest-growing insurance intermediary.

‘Research tells us that most companies still want to source their insurance locally and want to deal with a broker who knows their business well. Large call centres and internet sites cannot provide this personal approach, especially when it comes to advising on policy small print. I will end up travelling up to 40,000 miles by the end of the year but if it improves the quality of our service it will be worth it.’

BNIB Mair offers a full range of bespoke commercial insurance solutions to all types of business and has a practical working knowledge of many of Scotland’s agricultural and rural industries.
