BNIB Priestley support Christie’s in memory of former colleague

Insurance brokers in Altrincham who raised well over a thousand pounds in memory of a former colleague will donate the money to The Christie Hospital, Manchester.

Employees and clients of commercial insurance specialists, BNIB Priestley, took part in a charity treasure trail around Altrincham and found themselves discovering parts of the town they never knew existed.

The event was hosted by BNIB Priestley in memory of former colleague, insurance account handler Paul Heywood, who died five years ago after a long battle with cancer, aged 57.

Paul, who was treated at Christies during his illness, continues to be remembered by staff who each year run an annual fund-raising activity in support of Europe’s largest cancer treatment centre. Previous years they have run charity quiz nights but when their regular quizmaster fell ill they decided instead to opt for an evening’s treasure hunt around Altrincham town centre.

‘We saw it as an opportunity to get outdoors and do something fun as well as healthy,’ said BNIB Priestley's claims manager and official clue-setter, Ian Papworth. ‘Paul was a tremendous colleague and we all dearly miss him so it is always an honour to be involved in fund-raising events that help to keep his memory alive.’

The treasure hunt attracted more than 50 participants and was a timely forerunner to Christie’s Week (Oct 10-17th) where people across the North-west are encouraged to get involved with fund-raising activities in support of the 40,000 cancer patients treated at the Manchester centre each year.

The treasure hunt began at Altrincham’s Slug and Lettuce public house and finished with a buffet and prize-giving at The Old Market Tavern. The total amount raised was £1,400.

BNIB Priestley’s parent company Broker Network Insurance Brokers Ltd also made a financial contribution. BNIB Priestley is part of a national network of regional branches and offers bespoke commercial insurance solutions to businesses and organisations across the North-west.
