An estimated 2000 women taking part in a charity night walk in aid of a local hospice are to have their route illuminated with a little help from a commercial insurance broker.
BNIB Adam & Gaskell, based on King Street, Lancaster, has donated funds to its client St John’s Hospice in Slyne to purchase hundreds of torch key rings that will be handed out to participants as they begin the 9-mile walk at midnight on Saturday June 6th.
Taking part in this year’s annual Moonlight Walk from BNIB Adam & Gaskell are female account executives Mags Redpath, Lynette Robinson, Jacqui Hockham and Pepe Adam. They are expected to raise more than £1,000 between them with the final amount being doubled by BNIB’s parent company Towergate, the UK’s largest insurance intermediary. Towergate has pledged to match fund any money raised by BNIB employees for local independent hospices during 2009.
‘Towergate’s offer to double our money is great news but to be honest we would have taken part anyway,’ says Mags Redpath. ‘Each of us has been affected by cancer in our own lives with either a close friend or family member having been a patient at St John’s Hospice. The nurses do a marvellous job and however much we raise as a way of saying thank you it could never be enough. We are of course very grateful to both BNIB Adam & Gaskell and Towergate for their joint support.’
Starting at St John’s Hospice at midnight, walkers will take a circular route out to Bolton Le Sands then down the coastal road via Hest Bank and The Broadway Hotel before returning to the grounds of the Hospice for a pink champagne breakfast.
This is the third Moonlight Walk that the Hospice has organised. Last year’s event raised in excess of £127,000 towards extending and modernising the main ward.
